The shared core of Type 8
The following explanation is shared by all three instinctual subtypes of Type 8, drawn from our theory guide. The energy and function mappings are this site’s interpretive model.
Type 8: will driven by vision
Type 8 represents extreme abundance of gut energy: vitality and will expand outward, resisting every limit. Lust here means a craving for intensity—more, fuller, immediately—although some Chinese translations render it as sexual desire.
Popular accounts depict Eight as a muscular tough person and associate it with extraverted sensation (Se). Physical strength has limits, however, and cannot explain certain characteristic examples. Franklin D. Roosevelt had paralysis of his lower limbs from age 39, yet won four presidential elections and greatly expanded federal and presidential power. Sensory toughness plainly was not what sustained him.
This model uses extraverted intuition (Ne) to describe part of Eight's motivation; it is the site's hypothesis. Jung's extraverted intuitive is no naive dreamer: emerging possibilities attract them beyond the restraint of reason or feeling. Concern for others' welfare can be weak, with morality consisting in loyalty to their own vision. An analogy is a pedestrian eating while walking, unconcerned with either the ants fed by falling crumbs or those crushed underfoot.
In fiction, Eren Yeager in Attack on Titan is an extreme illustration: willing to flatten the world for the freedom he envisions. Historically, Mao Zedong, mobilizing masses against established bureaucracy, is also often read as Eight, relying on will above institutional procedure. Gut abundance can also appear as direct command over material conditions and immediate situations, so the model retains Se as another aspect of Eight.
Sketch
One-to-one Eight is the most rebellious and conspicuous Eight. Openly sharp and contrary, they enjoy showing that ordinary rules do not govern their life. Entering a room changes its atmosphere, just as intended.
Keyword: Possession
Naranjo initially understood possession too materially, later recognizing that it concerns people: the whole other person, or more broadly the entire setting. Sx8 stands where all eyes converge and often truly has the power to hold them.
Passion × instinct
One-to-one instinct makes lust most intense and emotional. Naranjo distinguished Sp8's action, So8's retained rational thought and Sx8's emotion, where rebellion most clearly breaks from reason. Power comes through attraction and presence rather than office or resources. This model's Ne backbone—pursuing a vision with less regard for immediate costs—fits Sx8 especially well. Possession means drawing people and situations into personal will and imagination, beyond simply owning them.
Everyday patterns
- Has a strong presence and becomes the focus on arrival.
- Loves and hates distinctly, with quick, powerful emotion.
- Wants exclusivity and leadership in intimate relationships.
- Provokes rules, taboos and prohibitions.
- Has no patience for boredom, control or lukewarm relationships.
Commonly confused types
Intensity, drama and possession resemble Sx4. The starting point differs: Sx4 feels lack and protests to obtain, while Sx8 feels abundance and takes. Sx4 is hurt by rejection and retaliates; Sx8 scarcely treats rejection as an option.
Blind spots and growth
The blind spot confuses intensity with intimacy and possession with love, missing others' costs. Growth practices release without feeling loss: allow their pace and space, do not win every scene, and admit reason and vulnerability. Stability without dominating frees attraction from needing control.
Anime character comparisons
These character classifications come from our test. Consider each character within their story and compare the motivation “A commanding Eight who draws people into an intense personal world.” These are interpretations of fictional works.

Meliodas
People die someday, but as long as someone keeps a person's wishes, the person doesn't really die. If you decide to protect someone's wishes, no matter how much blood you shed or how much tears you spill, stick to it!!
